Daniel Peter Andersen, 60, passed away on December 18, 2023, in Copenhagen after a brief battle with lung cancer (despite never smoking). Dan was Denmark's most celebrated modern furniture designer, whose minimalist, functional pieces defined Scandinavian design for a generation. Born in Aarhus, he apprenticed with a master carpenter before establishing his own studio in Copenhagen in 1990. Dan's 'Flow Collection' characterized by organic curves and sustainable materials is exhibited in the Designmuseum Danmark and has won numerous international awards. He believed that 'good design should be accessible, beautiful, and last a lifetime,' a philosophy reflected in his reasonably priced, heirloom-quality pieces. Despite international success, he remained committed to local production and craftspeople. He is survived by his husband Lars, their adopted daughter Freja, and his sister. His studio continues under the leadership of his protégé, Eva Nielsen. Dan's final design was a chemotherapy chair that combined medical functionality with aesthetic warmth a gift to the hospital that treated him. As he often said: 'Design isn't about things; it's about improving life with things.'
